About Hummingbird Farm
Hummingbird Farm is certified organic (KOGS#84) and grows speciality cut flowers and small fruits. We are located in the scenic Slocan valley on the Slocan river, 30 min from Nelson and Castlegar BC.
We are looking for an individual who is hard-working, physically fit, and is enthusiastic about sustainable organic farming. Farming is physically demanding work that involves the ability to squat, kneel, bend down and preform repetitive tasks in all kinds of weather! Day to day work is busy but is also rewarding working outside with the soil and plants. We harvest beautiful flowers, herbs, and fruits for 2 grocery stores in Nelson and Castlegar, the farmers market in Nelson, our farm stand and direct to customers. The growing of these plants requires a lot of support! Much of this work is solitary, and extremely task focused; but the feeling of accomplishment when a bed is prepped and planted as you watch it grow is fantastic!
Good communication is a must, as is the use of common sense, the confidence to make decisions and a willingness to go above and beyond! Please contact us if you are positive, self-motivated, respectful of others, a hard worker, a non-smoker, and are seriously considering organic agriculture in your future!
You can learn all aspects of organic small scale farming and organic systems. The scope of work includes preparing beds for planting, planting seeds/transplants, harvesting, deadheading flowers, mulching/weeding, watering/feeding, weeding, scouting for pests. Special projects!
