ABOUT Springford Farm
Springford Farm is a family owned and operated farm on Northwest Bay Road in Nanoose Bay. We produce free range eggs, grass-fed beef, and high quality forage. Our free range egg operation is what we are probably known best for, as we are the largest producer of local free-range eggs in the mid-Island area. We also steward 80-100 head of grass-fed and finished cattle, and in the past we have also grown small-scale vegetable crops, and raised chicken, turkey, lamb, and pigs for our farm market store and family.
Our hay operation has been growing steadily, and we grow and produce enough forage for our own herd through the winter, as well as providing for the local equine market and various other livestock operations around the mid-island area.
We operate a growing farm market storefront on the edge of our property on Northwest Bay Road where we sell our beef and eggs, as well as a wide variety of meat, dairy, fresh produce, and products from over 100 Vancouver Island farms and food producers.
Our farming ventures now include over 400 acres across the Oceanside area.
Of utmost importance to our farming practices is the ethical care of our livestock, ensuring that they have healthy and happy living conditions year-round. This includes allowing our grass-fed cattle to graze in pasture for as long as possible, and maintaining our third-party free range egg certification, allowing our hens access to fresh air, exercise and sunshine every day.
We strive to farm in a way that is environmentally responsible and respectful of the land and our community. We have implemented and are working toward several green initiatives to reduce our carbon footprint and continue to develop our sustainability practices on the farm.
DESIRED QUALITIES
This is an opportunity to grow with our team for the right candidate who may have horticulture or agriculture experience, or who would like to learn. Farming experience is an asset, but not necessarily a requirement.
We are looking for someone with great communication skills, the ability to work both on a team and independently, problem solving, someone willing to learn new skills and grow, a positive attitude and strong work ethic.
JOB TASKS
Duties will include both indoor and outdoor work including but not limited to: Harvesting, weeding, irrigation, grass cutting, feeding livestock, property maintenance, egg collecting and egg grading, general labourer duties and miscellaneous chores as needed.
JOB DETAILS
Term: This is a permanent, full time position, including weekends and holidays. We are looking for someone who can commit to working Sunday-Thursday each week, with more hours available in-season.
Hours per week: 30-40, occasionally more in peak sileage season.
Wage: The hourly wage will range from $17-$23/hour to start.
Wage is negotiable depending on experience, with a performance and wage review after 60 days of employment.
