FARM JOB: Nanaimo, BC – Big Bang Cider, Farm Hand

Posted by Michalina Hunter on April 20, 2023

Big Bang Cider in Nanaimo, BC is seeking a Farm Hand for the 2023 season!

ABOUT Big Bang Cider

Big Bang Cider is a small orchard-based cidery located in Nanaimo, BC. We are a new start-up farm and planted our orchard in May of 2020. We’re expecting our first harvest this summer. The apple varieties we planted have been specifically selected, for hundreds of years, to produce delicious, complex, and balanced ciders. We currently have 5.5ac of high density trees planted.

At Big Bang Cider we want to reinvent how people think about cider. Cider starts with quality selected root stock and apple varieties.  The varieties we are growing have been specifically selected to produce delicious, complex, and balanced ciders. The complexity found in our cider apples will allow us to make a cider that is balanced and interesting; a departure from the insipid sweetness that has become ubiquitous in the large commercially produced ciders. We live where we farm and care deeply about the land. We believe in farming in a way that supports integration with the surrounding ecosystem. Our farming practises promote ecological diversity and function. We are actively creating a productive farm environment that allows birds, bugs, and flowers to live and thrive amongst our trees. This not only reduces input costs but it allows us to produce a delicious sustainable cider. Farming takes a village and at Big Bang Cider we aim to create an inclusive space that fosters connection with the land, our food, and our community.
