ABOUT Ferme coopérative aux Champs qui Chantent

La ferme coop aux champs qui chantent is a diversified organic farm situated in the
Basses-Laurentides, one hour from Montréal, and about 1.5 hours from Ottawa. We are a worker cooperative and have been in production since 2012. In 2022 we are planning to produce vegetables for 300 weekly CSA baskets over 22 weeks. Additionally, we will care for 500 laying hens on pasture. We also have other projects (perennial gardens, orchard, beehives, our family cows, sheep, chickens for meat and pigs, as well as tiny house construction).

We are an organic-certified worker cooperative. Sustainable practices are close to our heart, and we are engaged in making organic farming accessible and visible to our communities.

The majority of folks who live on the farm identify as queer and/or trans, settler, and white. We aim notably to provide an accessible working and learning environment for queer and/or trans agricultural workers.


Characteristics of employment:

  • Work under pressure at a quick pace
  • Follow direction from manager
  • Lift heavy things (50 pounds)
  • Tasks sometimes repetitive and monotone (ex.: hand weeding for long hours!)
  • Work in the heat, cold, rain and when it is nice too!
  • Work in a team with division of tasks and responsibilities
  • Emphasis on learning: we do a lot of different things on the farm, we will have focused info sessions on specialized aspects of the farm, may visit other farms during the season, and there are opportunities for personal projects.


  • Experience with market gardens or animal production
  • Able to quickly understand new tasks
  • Ability to work alone and in a group
  • Ability to execute a task by respecting a protocol
  • Interest in joining our coop long-term
  • Experience in customer service
  • Valid drivers license
  • Bilingual (or at least enjoy Frenglish!)
  • Experience living with kids or being enthusiastic at the idea of cohabiting with 2 young kids.

*Only candidates that qualify for a salary subsidy by Emploi-Québec will be considered. If you are currently unemployed or under employed for several months or are currently receiving employment insurance or social assistance you have a good chance of being admissible. Tasks and responsibilities:

  • Participate in tasks related to the production of vegetables (planting, weeding, pruning, trellising, harvesting, installing row covers, watering)
  • Feeding and general care of the animals
  • Participate in team meetings
  • Participate in maintaining tidy and safe workspaces

Conditions of employment:

  • Full time, 40 hours per week
  • Monday through Friday from 7 or 8am to 4 or 5pm
  • Changing schedule depending on time of season
  • Care for animals about one weekend per month
  • Possibility to live on the farm and participate in community farm life


Term: This is a 7-month (30 weeks) position, spawning from mid-April through early-November 2022.

Hours per week: This position is full time, 40 hours / week.

Wage: The salary is 14.25$ / hour.
