Golden Cariboo Honey in Lillooet, British Columbia is seeking a Beekeeper!

ABOUT Golden Cariboo Honey

Golden Cariboo Honey is a honey and nucleus colony producer located in Lillooet BC. We provide honey to our local community and sell colonies to other commercial honey operations throughout Western Canada.

We have been producing honey in the area for four generations. Our number one goal is to keep healthy and thriving colonies.

DESIRED QUALITIES

The most important quality is a willingness to learn and a genuine interest in bees. You will get all the experience and mentorship you need to be a capable beekeeper. Beekeeping experience is a plus but not absolutely necessary. The second most important quality is a willingness to get stung. Calm beekeepers make calm bees, and one cannot be calm if afraid of being stung.

Honey harvesting is hard work. A full super of honey can weigh up to 90lbs, and it is important that you are able to safely and comfortably carry full supers.

Please note that a drivers license is required.

JOB TASKS

You will have an opportunity to partake in every aspect of hive maintenance and honey production as the jobs shift throughout the season. Each week is different! Activities include hive inspections, queen rearing, honey harvesting and extraction, as well as building and cleaning of bee equipment. Once the flow is over we then shift into disease and mite control, as well as a heavy focus on feeding and nutrition. The season ends with wrapping and winterizing hives.

JOB DETAILS

Term: Our full time position starts in June and goes until October, with potential to work part-time throughout the winter melting, bottling and selling honey.

Wage: Starting wage is 20$ an hour. If you deemed capable of working on your own to perform hive inspections than the hourly wage will increase.
