Looking to advance your farming skills though a farm crew job on southern Vancouver Island? Vitality Farm in Langford, BC is hiring two farm crew members for the 2021 season!
About Vitality Farm
Vitality Farm is a mixed one acre certified organic veggie and strawberry farm run by
Diana and Doug Brubaker. We are focused on providing quality products serving our
community through our CSA programs, new online-store, local chefs and two regional
markets.
Vitality Farm is one of a number of farmers who are part of the Lohbrunner Community
Farm Cooperative (LCFC) stewards of this 13 acre farm with a unique situation to have
land for new farmers in the years to come. As a coop member we will have a role in
marketing the coop’s flowers and blueberries.
Diana and Doug value our role in supporting the growth of future farmers and hope to
help launch a few more in the next few years. Through hands on learning and mentoring
we will make ourselves available to help you meet your learning needs while working on
Vitality Farm. Our world needs more farmers! This year we are looking for a full time
(30-40 hrs/week) and a half time (20-30 hrs/week).
Desired Qualities
Our two Farm Crew will first and foremost be passionate about working the land.
Farming is rewarding if you enjoy repetitive, labour intensive work outdoors in all kinds
of weather. We need you to have at least two years of vegetable farming experience to
assist with the growing, harvesting, processing, packaging, and selling of our products.
You will be working with the public at local markets and require a good knowledge of the
vegetables you are selling and always have a friendly helpful way about you. You will
have the ability to problem solve to be efficient, use lean practices, maintain your
endurance through pacing, and do tasks well and even better the next time. A drivers
license is necessary.
Job Tasks
You will be capable of all basic tasks engaging in soil prep, seeding, transplanting,
weed management, harvesting and processing. You will be open to learning how to use
our small power tools, walk behind tractor, and other tasks at hand you may not be
familiar with. Your work week will be attending markets on the weekends. Farming is
physically demanding work. We anticipate that you will be lifting and carrying up to 40
lbs on a frequent basis.
