Yellow Point Farms in Ladysmith, BC is seeking four blueberry pickers!
ABOUT Yellow Point Farms
This is a unique opportunity to become part of the Yellow Point Farm team and work outside in nature in our beautiful blueberry fields. We are well known for our delicious, large, juicy, hand-picked blueberries. This is a positive work environment and a fun place for all that work here and all that visit. We set goals each week for our harvest and take the blueberries being picked to sell at farmer’s markets and in our store.
Behind the scenes we are a diverse 32-acre farm that is nestled in a sunny valley in the Yellow Point area of Ladysmith, Vancouver Island. We grow blueberries, garlic, pumpkins and more, using all-natural and regenerative farming practices. Plus, we raise multiple breeds of miniature farm animals. We have recently opened a farm store and petting farm on site where we sell our products and invite people to the farm to meet the animals that live and work here.
DESIRED QUALITIES
The person applying should be very detail-oriented, and motivated to complete personal and team goals. This is a 4 – 6 week contract for the blueberry season. Experience in piecework (orchard picking/ tree planting, trimming, etc) is desirable, but we are willing to train motivated candidates who show aptitude. This work is best suited for people who:
- Enjoy working as part of a team to meet goals
- Are self-motivated and able to set personal goals
- Are hardworking, and physically able to do the tasks required: work in a variety of weather conditions, bending, lifting, kneeling, standing for long periods, etc.
- Has great attention to detail
- Is able to follow directions, ask questions, and complete tasks efficiently
- Has strong communication skills.
- Can maintain a positive attitude even when adverse conditions may prevail (hot weather, repetitive work)
JOB TASKS
- Harvesting and sorting blueberries
- Accurate record keeping
- Opportunity to work on other areas of the farm for extra hourly wage: harvesting and cleaning garlic, fruit and veggie bed maintenance, etc.
JOB DETAILS
Term: Starts anytime from July 1st to 5th, 2023 to August 5th-12th, 2023 (4-6 + weeks, start and end date slightly variable-depends on when they blueberries are ready, and how long they go for!)
Hours per week: Approx 32 hours per week, 8am-4pm, Wed-Saturday.
Wage: $1.50 per lb (sorted berries). Pickers can expect to pick from 100-200lbs per day, or more! Depending on your skill and motivation.
