Kispiox Creations produces pure birch syrup for culinary use and grows/sells seasonal bedding plants (flowers, herbs, vegetables) to home gardeners and local institutions. This year expanding to sell fresh vegetables on our 553 acre sub-dividable property in the Kispiox Valley, BC.

DESIRED QUALITIES

We are looking for someone to help with weed brushing, trail clearing, repairing the greenhouse roof, gardening, farm work and general maintenance & clean up. It would be desirable that the applicant is interested, knows or is capable of learning about heavy equipment operation, maintenance & repair.

We received a grant from the federal government (Agriculture Canada) to hire a youth (Canadian citizen, permanent resident of Canada or a status refugee) between the ages of 15 to 30 for summer and fall this year or up to March 31, 2024.

JOB TASKS

The intern will: 1) operate a brush saw to clear trails in order to better access birch tree stands, remove and dispose of dead trees; 2) Help with adding additional greenhouse and farm buildings to increase production, 3) Develop and maintain a vegetable garden with the goal of selling produce at local farmers markets; 4) Assist with repairs, operation, and maintenance of heavy equipment used on the farm.

JOB DETAILS

Term: Now to March 31, 2024.

Hours per week: Can be full or part-time. The hours are flexible.

Wage: The base wage is $20/hr but could be higher for someone with experience or ability.

Part of the grant is for relocation costs for someone to live temporarily away from their home in order to do the job. We do have covered camping space in our yard and can supply some basic necessities. WiFi is available, but there is no cell phone service.
