Posted by JoHana Harcourt on January 09, 2023

Galiano Community Food Forest in Galiano Island, B.C. is seeking a Sustainable Food Systems Technician!

ABOUT Galiano Community Food Forest

The Galiano Conservancy’s Sustainable Food Systems program has its roots in the Millard Learning Centre on Galiano Island and is focused on our Food Forest and the Nuts’a’maat Forage Forest. The Food Forest is a multi-layered diverse garden maintained by hand tools. Harvesting for produce happens about twice a week for local restaurants and as needed for our farm stand. Harvesting for our Forest Garden Tea is ongoing as things ripen. Herbal Tea is harvested, dried, processed and packaged on site, and then sold at our office, by local island vendors, and at our island’s Saturday market. The Galiano Conservancy production nursery is located at the Food Forest and is where we grow native and food bearing plants. The plants are sold at our onsite nursery located behind our office and at the Saturday market.

The Galiano Conservancy Association is a diverse organization with a mission to protect, steward and restore Galiano Island ecosystems by creating a network of natural areas  where a healthy environment, learning and a love of nature flourish. The purpose of our Sustainable Food Systems program is to demonstrate and inspire healthy food growing practices, relationships to the land, and to give people the tools they need to be able to grow food sustainably.
