We farm the land with natural and traditional methods that produce the highest quality and healthiest food for our community. We do not use synthetic chemicals on the Sorrento Centre Farm. We promote sustainable agriculture by growing food with methods that support and nurture the natural harmony of Creation.
We are looking for individuals who are interested in learning more about sustainable food production and stewardship of the land. Are you an environmental and socially conscious individual seeking like-minded people looking for an exciting opportunity for growth, learning, and service to others? Are you ready for an adventure and experience of a lifetime? Are there social justice issues that you are passionate about, that drive you to action? If the answer is yes then join us for 8 months (September – May) in an intentional community, living, working and learning at our beautiful 24-acre campus and 8-acre farm in the beautiful Shuswap in the interior of BC. All accommodation and meals are provided as well as all adventure and recreation opportunities related to the program.
Sorrento Centre farm is in the early stages of transforming to a permaculture/regenerative agricultural system on its 8-acre farm. Current farm focus on perennial crops eg raspberries, strawberries with some market garden annuals.
A range of tasks related to permaculture and regenerative farming. Participate in harvesting, clearing, mulching, and preparing the land for Spring planting. This is physically demanding and rewarding work.
Term: 12th September 2021
- Full room and board provided
- Part-time, paid work experience (20 hrs per week)
- 20+ hrs per week facilitated and self-directed social justice, spirituality, and practical workshops
- 1 week of wilderness adventure at Wells Gray Provincial Park including camping, hiking, white water rafting, overnight wilderness canoe trip, horseback riding
- Volunteer opportunities in local communities
- Meet with our multifaith siblings to explore our faiths together
- Winter sports and recreational opportunities including 1 week of downhill skiing, & snowshoeing
- An engaging study of spirituality, the bible, and other sacred texts and teachings
Hours per week: WYLD is an adventure in community living and self-exploration. You can discover much more about your direction in life, your spirituality and values, and a larger view of the world.
You would benefit from being in a fun, festive, safe, supportive group of learners and, at the same time, you would be stretched and challenged with new situations and adventures.
You would gain valuable leadership experiences in being part of a new initiative and helping to shape WYLD. You will learn new life skills in the wilderness, rural and urban settings, and share in travel and adventure.
Travel to locations of service and learning, spiritual practices, worship, service projects, camping and wilderness skills, skiing, canoeing, film festivals, university lectures and events, art, music, dancing, yoga, leadership, and facilitation skills, preparing food and cooking skills, growing wholesome food, construction skills, social activism, and reflecting on all these experiences (and more to be discovered!)
WYLD features a diverse set of experiences, adapted to the learning goals of the team.
Paid part-time work/work experience. An average of 20 hours per week will be paid to each participant. This work can be on or off-site or a combination of both. Opportunities for working field trips based on participants’ areas of interest/social concern can be planned.
Wage: $16 per hour for a 20 hour workweek. Accommodation and meals provided. Adventure and recreational programming paid for by the Sorrento Centre
