Edible Acres Farm and Cafe/ Winderberry in Windermere, BC is seeking a Farm Assistant & Soil Technician for the 2019 season!
About WINDERBERRY and EDIBLE ACRES FARM
Winderberry and Edible Acres Farm are located in Windermere, BC. We are nestled in the Columbia Valley and Rocky Mountains and a 15 min walk to Lake Windermere. The area is a mecca for outdoor activities all seasons of the year. We own and operate a Greenhouse business where we specialize in annual flower production and selling of trees, shrubs, perennials, gardening soils and fertilizers, etc. We also have 5 acres of certified organic vegetable production and a Cafe that is situated in amongst our greenhouses and nursery. The applicant will be working with both Winderberry (garden centre) and certified organic Edible Acres Farm and CSA (Community Supported Agriculture), which are both located on the same property. We sell through our retail greenhouse, cafe, local grocery stores, health food store, farmers market and restaurants.
Our vegetable farm is certified organic and we pride ourselves in being the only certified organic vegetable grower in the Columbia Valley. Our greenhouse and flower production is not certified organic, but the only non allowable substance we use on the flowers is chemical fertilizer. We do not use any herbicides, pesticides or fungicides. In fact we use IPM (integrated pest management) within all our greenhouses.
Desired Qualities
We are looking for a strong, fit and self motivated person to join our team for the 2019 season. We are seeking a physically fit individual that ideally has some experience in horticulture or agriculture, but not necessary. We are needing someone that is a good team player, able to take instruction and work with us to create the best quality product. Being organized and able to communicate with team members is essential. And did we mention physically fit! There is lots of heavy lifting that you will have to be able to do on your own.

In the spring the job involves soil preparation, filling planters and pots with soil, the handling and care of nursery stock, transplanting veggies and flowers, weeding and prepping fields for planting. In the summer the job shifts to field work, harvesting veggies, processing and packaging and farmer’s market sales.
