Boots ‘n’ Roots Permaculture Farm in Duncan, British Columbia is seeking a Farm Worker/Intern!
ABOUT Boots ‘n’ Roots Permaculture Farm
Boots ‘n’ Roots farm grows over 25 different veggie and herb crops, and concentrates on doing a lot of fall/winter farming, as we have 3 large commercial greenhouses to grow in over the winter. We rarely use large machinery, as we work on being as gentle on the land as possible – we are a regenerative farm, not just sustainable. We sell our product at the Duncan Farmers’ Market each week, plus two local online forums, and a small CSA ‘You Choose’ model.
We are non-certified, but practice organic/natural farming techniques. We grow all our crops in raised ‘lasagne’ beds, practice no-till, and work really hard at building the health of our soils with the use of compost, Effective Micro-organisms, comfrey tea and more.
Hard working, good eye for detail, tidy, good sense of humour. We also have dogs on the farm so would like to have folks who are happy to get visited by four legged friends.
Weeding and prepping beds for fall planting, harvesting 3 times a week, caring for chickens and ducks, keeping our processing area clean and tidy, some tractor work (picking up manure from neighbours), also working on various projects- including expanding our field and greenhouse areas.
Term: Start date is as soon as possible. Position is open until the end of Oct, or later if the weather stays mild. We start up again in March, and the position will be open for all next season for the right applicant.
Hours per week: Work is currently 24-30 hours/week, plus additional hours for an interested party (working for my landlords, doing property maintenance) Hours may increase into the fall.
Wage: Starting wage is $16/hour ($17 if he/she has some experience).
