ABOUT Kootenay Meadows

Our farm is an organic grass based dairy in the heart of the Kootenays. We are a vertically integrated farm, producing our own feed and milk as well as processing and distributing our product, we do it all from soil to shelf. We graze 150 acres from April – November, we also hay an additional 400 acres to produce our winter feed and do a small acreage of grain. Our equipment is quite basic for cropping and harvest. We milk our cows using Lely A4 Robotic Voluntary Milkers, blending traditional farming with modern technology.

Our farm has been certified organic since 2007 and is dedicated to responsible agriculture, animal care, and producing high-quality products

DESIRED QUALITIES

• Some prior farm or equipment experience preferred (but not required)
• Willingness to learn—training will be provided, including robotic milking systems
• Comfortable working with livestock
• Mechanically inclined is an asset
• Physically capable of handling outdoor, manual work in varying weather conditions
• Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently or as part of a team

POSITION TASKS

• Operate and maintain farm equipment (tractors and other machinery)
• Assist with daily livestock care (feeding, monitoring, handling)
• Work with and support robotic milking systems (Lely A4 units)
• Help monitor, clean, and perform basic maintenance on milking robots (training provided)
• Perform general farm duties including fencing, cleaning, and maintenance
• Support seasonal tasks such as haying and field work
• Follow farm safety and animal welfare standards

POSITION DETAILS

Term: Start date is immediate. Position could be permanent or seasonal depending on candidate

Hours per week: During harvest we will work average 60 hours a week. During regular season it is 35 – 40 hours a week

Wage: $20 – $25 an hour starting wage based on candidate and experience

Housing and car available for right candidate. Milk and ice cream is provided along with a meat allowance.
