Ridgewood Farm in Courtenay, BC is seeking a full-time livestock farm worker!
ABOUT Ridgewood Farm
Ridgewood Farms is a leader in ethical and humanely raised beef, pork and eggs in the Comox Valley on Vancouver Island. Our products are marketed mostly through local Farmers’ Markets with some farm gate sales. We are looking for an individual to fill a position to learn about egg, beef and pork production the Ridgewood way.
Ridgewood Farms, Mary Jane Douglas & Chris Brown, have worked with livestock for over 30 years. Since 2016, seeing a need in the community, we have focused on egg & meat production for the local market. Working under a small lot permit, with BC Egg, we have a flock of 350 laying hens. We provide eggs at 3 farmers’ markets a week, 120 dozen eggs a week at peak production to Lush Valley Food Action Society who serve families in need, and servicing local islands around our island. Our meat production has moved from beef only to including pork, when a need in the market appeared when another local farm retired.
Our goal has always been to feed the community with ethically & humanely raised livestock. After years of watching the industry, Mary Jane decided that the focus on care and compassion was not only good for the animal but the quality of the product and had to be the primary driver of the business.
