ABOUT Whanau Farms
We are looking for Farm Hand to join us this summer on beautiful Vancouver Island, in Victoria, B.C.
The Whanau Farm is about the environment – we are trying to distance ourselves from conventional farming practices and move toward a more biodynamic way of life. We hope to introduce holistic management practices and regenerative agriculture. We are farming for the future. Whanau Farm is owned by a family that owns a high-end construction company.
DESIRED QUALITIES
- Passionate about learning or know how to or use the following tools and equipment: Maddock, rake, shovel (spade head and square mouth), pitch fork, hand pruner, garden knife, post rammer, clearing sickle, gas powered broom, gas powered trimmer, tractor, and able to maintain gas powered tools
- Need to understand some tree maintenance or health
- Must be reliable
- Be clean and tidy
- Passionate about learning
- Can work alone on tasks
- Self-directed if the farm manager is not around
- Has arm and hand skills
- Comfortable on ladders
- Comfortable working around owner’s children
JOB TASKS
Farm Maintenance Duties
- Mow Lawns
- Pull up miscellaneous blackberry roots
- Pick blackberries
- Weed gardens
- Run an irrigation water wheel
- Happy to do some plumbing
- Understands irrigation or wants to learn basics.
- Check that plants are getting watered around the property
- Install mulch on pathways
- Move hog fuel around for mulch and pathways
JOB DETAILS
Term: Part-time/seasonal
Hours per week: 20 hours
Wage: $17 – $25 per hour
