FARM JOB: Carstairs, AB – Garden Gnome or Student on Summer break

Posted by Dana Penrice on January 30, 2018

Happiness By The Acre is a small start-up farm between Didsbury and Carstairs that operates a non-certified organic market garden, orchard, and 125 acres of pasture. We are currently looking for a student, or garden gnome, interested in working on our farm. We deliver product to Calgary and the surrounding area, as well as are opening a trust-based on-farm store in 2018.

Primary job duties will revolve around the market garden and orchard. A great deal of the job is weed identification and manual removal; but plenty of opportunities for general labour, washing and bagging vegetables, and chasing cows or chickens will present themselves. By the end of the summer we can promise your power level in thistle pulling will be over 9000.

This is a seasonal job from May until the end of September. Start and end dates flexible give or take a week. Compensation includes above minimum wage pay ($17.00/hour) and access to delicious seasonal crops for your eating enjoyment. Access to weight-training equipment is also available. Anticipated hours are full time, 35 to 45 hours per week.

Must be able to drive, operate small machinery (we will train on a BCS walking tractor), and lift 50lbs repeatedly throughout the day. Garden Trolls, Ogres, and Flea Beetles need not apply.

Contact farming@happinessbytheacre.ca with your CV and cover letter. Bonus points for including your deadlift, squat, and bench PRs. Students only please, this is a summer employment grant hire.
