Morningstar Woollen on Bowen Island, BC is seeking a farm manager or helper!
ABOUT Morningstar Woollen
Our key products are woollens, flowers, breeding stock, and small amounts of meat. Most things are sold at markets. Our flowers are grown for cut flowers and plant dying. I am a clothing designer and textile instructor. We host various workshops here at the farm.
At Morningstar Woollen on Bowen Island, everything we do stems from wanting to not only sustain but to regenerate our environment. From quality food, clothing, and flowers, each step in considered. We are not organically certified but use only organic inputs. Soil health is of utmost importance. We focus on minimal soil disturbance and strive to make all inputs on farm.

JOB TASKS
Basic tasks:
- Irrigate and harvest crops (flowers mainly).
- Feed and tend livestock and poultry some days.
- Perform or assist in breeding activities of farm animals (bottles, lamb watch).
- Operate and maintain farm machinery and equipment.
- Follow food safety and security and animal bio-security procedures.
- Detect disease and health problems in crops, livestock, and poultry.
- Examine flowers for quality and prepare for market.
- Set and monitor water lines, air flow and temperature in barns, pens, and chicken coops.
- Maintain or assist in the maintenance of facilities and farm infrastructure including cleaning stables, barns, barnyards, and pens. Fences, fences, fences!
More advanced opportunities for the right candidate:
- Help with marketing and social media.
- Analyzing existing operations, crops, livestock, and financial documents and recommending improvements.
- Preparing plans and schedules for planting and harvesting.
- Scheduling repairs, maintenance, and replacement of equipment and machinery.
- Handling the marketing and sale of products produced on the farm like woollens, meat, and flowers.
- Assisting with the recruitment and training of new staff members.
- Collaborating to prepare budgets and financial reports / applications
JOB DETAILS
Term: This position can be permanent for the right candidate. Start date is flexible – January – March.
Hours per week: Flexible – minimum 12hrs/week ideally 20 or more during spring /summer. Could be full-time depending on interests in other aspects of the business.
Wage: $21/hr – willing to consider additional commission.
There is a suite that is on site. There is a big demand for landscaping labour on Bowen (one option could be to live on farm and work part time and also work elsewhere part time).
