Winter Sun Farm in Bella Coola, BC is seeking a farm crew!
ABOUT Winter Sun Farm
Winter Sun Farm is a certified organic mixed farm growing vegetables on 2.5 acres and raising pigs and chickens on rotational pasture. We grow a wide variety of vegetables, eggs and meat that we sell to the community via an online store, a CSA program and a weekly farmers’ market.
We are committed to growing nutritionally dense food using regenerative practices that enhance biodiversity and promote soil health. WSF uses innovative intensive small-scale market gardening tools that minimize soil disturbance and optimize labor.
DESIRED QUALITIES
Winter Sun Farm is seeking 2 self-motivated, hard working individuals who are interested in learning more about farming sustainably to join our farm crew for the 2025 season.
We love what we do and we think that farm life is the best life. We are looking for individuals that will be excited to learn and be part of the crew. Farming is hard work but it is also very validating for the right folks. Specifically, we are looking for people who:
- Are hard-working and reliable and willing to work with us for a whole season.
- Are eager to learn how to grow food and run a farm
- Like working within a team and are also capable of working independently and take initiatives
- Value good honest communication and are able to give and receive constructive feedback
- Have some experience working on a farm or within a fast-paced environment
- Willing to learn new systems and to improve work efficiency
- Value the quality of their work
- Have mental and physical endurance (able to work standing up, kneeling down or lift a maximum of 50lbs)
- Love the outdoors and are not afraid to work in the rain or under the sun.
POSITION TASKS
You will work outside within a team of 2 to 5 people and partake in all aspects of the farm from seeding to tending and harvesting. You will work under the guidance of the Farm Manager or Crew Leader and be provided with ample training in all the farm tasks.
- Field and bed preparation
- Seeding and seedling care
- Compost tea preparation and application
- Hand and paperpot transplanting
- Weeding mechanically or manually
- Harvesting, washing and packing
- Preparing orders and CSA boxes
- Fixing electric fences
- Feeding, watering and moving animals
- Collecting and packing eggs
- General property maintenance like weed whacking
- Participate in farm building projects such as the new greenhouse
- Interact with customers at the farm and at farmers market
POSITION DETAILS
Term: May 1-October 31st
Hours per week: 35hrs/week, 5 days/week. Start time and day of the week will be set in advance depending on weather and tasks at hand.
Wage: We offer a wage of $20-23/hour depending on experience- plus 4% vacation pay.
There’s always lots of free vegetables available for staff.
