Pilgrims’ Produce in Armstrong & Vernon, British Columbia is seeking a Market Garden Farm Worker!
ABOUT Pilgrims’ Produce
We offer a large variety of vegetables, fruits, berries and nuts mainly to folks in our local community via Farmer’s Markets, our own CSA box program, U-Pick as well as other local outlets. Just minutes to Vernon & Armstrong at the base of Eagle Rock cliff face, it’s a stunning place to get to work! We farm 13.7 acres using a few tractors and lots of man/woman power. With 6 high tunnel greenhouses along with field crops, orchards and permaculture sections we grow a wide variety of high quality, certified organic produce for our local community. Join our team and become part of the family (seriously, our kids will be around!) and enjoy this diverse farm as it changes throughout the growing season.
Pilgrims’ Produce is a well established farm (since 1991) with newer owners, Dan & Kat
Saxton (and 4 young kids) continuing on the farming legacy. Since its inception over 30 years ago, Pilgrims’ Produce has been committed to certified organic practices. We value our customers (neighbours, family, friends, the local community!) and we are proud to offer some of the best food around. Small scale organic farming allows us to be focused on the land and taking care of it for ourselves and for future generations and our customers too.
Hardworking, upbeat and motivated (team setting or solo) while doing physically demanding tasks in rain or hot Okanagan heat. Someone who can work fast, skillfully and to the best of their ability. We’re happy to do on site training and experience is a huge asset!
Everyone is expected to participate in all farm tasks from planting, weeding, greenhouse work, harvesting, washhouse work, Farmers Markets, etc. There are a lot of different tasks which require physical and mental flexibility (from crawling on the ground to helping customers at market). We alternate jobs throughout the day for a balanced and enjoyable work atmosphere. Physical strength and agility needed: Can you lift 40lbs? Crawl in the dirt? Squat? (Tasks vary and farm work is better than a gym membership!)
*If you have fencing, or construction skills please let us know!
Term: Beginning of April til mid-October. Flexible start/end dates are available, especially for students.
Hours per week: Approximately 40 hrs/ 5 days week.
Wage: Starting around $17/hr based on experience, with opportunities for raises, clothing and gear allowance, and an end of season bonus.
Of course you will have access to an abundance of the amazing food grown on the farm as part of the perks. We have room on the farm for workers who wish to camp out for the summer with an outdoor shower and orchard camping spots available. Our worker cabin is already taken for this summer.
