FARM JOB: Armstrong, BC – Pilgrims’ Produce, market garden crew member

Pilgrims’ Produce in Armstrong, BC is seeking a market garden crew member!

ABOUT Pilgrims’ Produce

We grow a large variety of vegetables, fruits, berries and nuts for folks in our local community. Just minutes to Vernon and Armstrong at the base of Eagle Rock cliff face, we farm 13.7 acres using a few tractors and lots of man (and woman) power. With 4 high tunnel greenhouses along with field crops, orchards, and permaculture sections we grow a wide variety of high quality and certified organic produce. We also raise a small flock of hair sheep, and a mix of other farmyard animals who all “work” on the farm by mowing, weeding, pest management etc. Pilgrims’ Produce was established in 1991 and newer owners, Dan and Kat Saxton, along with their four young kiddos run the place. We sell our beautiful produce via a CSA weekly box program, our on farm store, U-Pick, as well as a few other local stores, restaurants, schools and wholesale.

We invite you to join our team! There is always a lot happening and such a wealth of knowledge to tap into.

Pilgrims’ Produce has been committed to certified ORGANIC practices since 1991. Small scale organic farming allows us to be focused on caring for the land and the beautiful place we call home. We are proud to offer healthy and delicious food that is free from harmful chemicals to our community and family.

DESIRED QUALITIES

Hardworking, upbeat and motivated (team setting or solo) while doing physically demanding tasks in rain or hot Okanagan heat. Someone who can work fast, skillfully and to the best of their ability. We’re happy to do on site training and experience is a huge asset!

POSITION TASKS

Everyone is expected to participate in all farm tasks from planting, weeding, greenhouse work, harvesting, washhouse work, etc.

There are a lot of different tasks which require physical and mental flexibility. We do our best to alternate jobs throughout the day. Physical strength and agility are definitely needed: Can you lift 40lbs? Crawl in the dirt? Squat? (Tasks vary and farm work is better than a gym membership!)

POSITION DETAILS

Term: Most likely to start at the beginning of April and go to the end of October depending on the season itself.

Hours per week: Approx. 40 hrs a week (5 days a week) but will vary over the season, at peak season more hours may be needed, slower times may offer fewer hours.

Wage: Starting @ $19+/hr depending on experience and skill
