Argenta Gardens (formerly Tipiland Organic Produce) in Argenta, BC is seeking a field manager intern/general farm worker!
ABOUT Argenta Gardens
Argenta Gardens is a peaceful off off-grid wilderness homestead with a successful market garden operating since 1989. We are committed to certified organic and grow a large variety of produce with an emphasis on garlic and greens. We also make beautiful flower bouquets for market. Produce is sold to grocery stores along Kootenay Lake and is also donated to the local Food Hub.
While we take the business aspect seriously, there is so much more to our homestead life. We believe in living a full life in nature caring not only for our garden soils but also the entire ecosystem around us. We enjoy providing for ourselves with canning and freezing, gathering firewood, collecting eggs from our duck/goose flock, picking fruit from our orchard…. It is important to us to be activists for nature protection in our region.
DESIRED QUALITIES
Work in the market garden is largely done by hand with wheelbarrows, hoes, wheel hoes, digging forks… We do have an efficient diesel rototiller as well. We are looking for focused and reliable workers who enjoy manual labour and have a passion for growing healthy food for our neighbours and themselves. Previous farm work is a prerequisite and workers need to feel comfortable working alone.
JOB TASKS
The farm intern position includes work in all phases of market gardening from soil prep to processing. The field worker is a part-time position working wherever needed on the farm.
JOB DETAILS
Term: Season is April to November.
Hours per week:
- Intern 32 hours/wk average
- General field worker 20 hours/wk average
Wage:
- $21/hour for the intern
- $20.50/hour for the farm worker
