Close to Home Organics in Abbotsford, BC is seeking a Farm Worker for the 2021 season!
ABOUT Close to Home Organics
Close to Home Organics is a family-owned and operated organic mixed-vegetable farm, located in Abbotsford. We farm at Glen Valley Organic Farm as shareholders of the Glen Valley Organic Farm Cooperative. We sell our produce through Farmers Markets, a Community Shared Agriculture (CSA) program, and through a local wholesale distributor.
Our farm is certified organic and we employ a number of practices to nurture soil health through to the health of pollinators and surrounding wildlife populations.
We aren’t into food fads and fetishes. We like good food, but we also care about who grew it and how they grew it. The root of the word “culture” comes from the Latin cultura meaning “to cultivate”. We think this is an important point to remember. The very notion of culture is literally rooted in the soil. Our traditions, customs and ways of life revolve around food — how we eat and how we grow the food and the communities in which that food is produced.
We’re not just farming in order to grow great food. We’re also farming to offer an alternative culture, to cultivate an alternative way of connecting with other people and an alternative way of respecting our natural environment.
Our Farm Worker is expected to work outside in all types of conditions. The work is physically demanding, but the snacking options are endless! The work is at times solo, and at other times in a team setting. Successful, happy farm workers are self-motivated, aware of their body’s need for water and stretching, driven to get the work done efficiently, and communicate well with others. The work is not glamorous, but the results are tangible…and delicious.
