ASM Rice Farm in Abbotsford, British Columbia is seeking a Rice Farm Hand for the 2021 season!
ABOUT ASM RICE FARM
ASM Farm is Canada’s only commercial rice farm located in the Fraser Valley and uses the Japanese short grain rice production method. The BC rice is a 5-months crop with trans-planting in mid May and harvesting in late September or early October.
In 2021, we are organically farming 4 acres of land located in Abbotsford one minute from Exit 92 Mission and US boarder and produce two types of rice. One is sake rice for our sake production (rice wine) at Artisan SakeMaker at Granville Island and the other is table rice. Our short grain table rice both in brown and white has been so popular and our supply has never satisfied the demand so far.
The rice paddy farming is done mostly by machine in the wet field. The list of machine includes land tiller, rice planter, weeder, harvester, drier, grain cleaner. However, hand weeding is required in the summer months after the plants are taller than 10 to 15 cm.
OUR MISSION STATEMENT:
To create and spread a uniquely Canadian rice culture.
To practice and promote the concept of sustainability with no waste and environmentally sound operation .
To value “local, sustainable and natural.”
DESIRED QUALITIES
If you are well-organized, self-motivated and observant of details, you are the candidate we are happy to work with and depend on. An extensive knowledge of plants in general, mechanically-inclined traits and science background are also very desirable.

JOB TASKS
