Nov 2, 2025: Land Sharing Workshop – Surrey, BC

Nov 2, 2025: Land Sharing Workshop – Surrey, BC

Nov 2 | 1:00pm - 4:00pm

Why share land? The number of farmers in B.C. has been declining for several decades, and thousands of local farms have disappeared. Farm operators are ageing out of farming and retiring, but with the cost of farmland at an all-time high, many new farmers can’t afford to buy land and continue their legacy. That’s why the B.C. Land Matching Program exists, and our annual educational land sharing workshops offer an opportunity for farmers and landholders to connect with each other and learn how to share land.

Join Ve-Jane (Metro Vancouver-Fraser Valley Land Matcher) to learn how you can access land for farming or make your land available to a farmer. Ve-Jane will guide you through a self-assessment activity to help you create an action plan for your own land sharing journey. You’ll leave the workshop with the knowledge, resources and connections needed to turn your plan into reality.

Jenny Liu, Regional Agrologist, will also be there to discuss funding opportunities, resources available, and important regulations for farmers, including Agricultural Land Commission rules, right to farm, and water regulations. There will be lots of time for Q&A with Jenny and the B.C. Land Matching Program team.

We need all hands on deck to tackle the challenges facing the agriculture sector in B.C. – come learn how land sharing can be part of the solution, and how you can get involved!

ABOUT JENNY:

Hello! My name is Jenny Liu and I am the Regional Agrologist for Langley, Maple Ridge, the Sunshine Coast, and Squamish-Lillooet Regional District. I completed my BSc at UBC in forest sciences, then my MSc at the University of Guelph in agricultural entomology. I spent some time working for the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture as the Maple, Tree Nut, and Agroforestry Specialist, before relocating here to enjoy the abundance and beauty of agriculture in the Fraser Valley. Outside of work, I have a two-year-old toddler, and I spend lots of time trying to get him interested in soil and insects instead of garbage trucks… it’s a work in progress. Looking forward to meeting you, wherever you are on your farming journey!
