Ever wondered what a seed farm looks like at harvest time, or what your vegetables would look like at the end of their life cycle? Join us for a tour of the gardens at Winnow Seed Co. to learn how seeds are produced!
Winnow Seed Co. is a seed farm that produces certified organic, open-pollinated vegetable, herb, and flower seeds in Krestova, BC. There are very few local seed growers, and even fewer that both produce and market all their own seeds direct-to-consumer, as Winnow Seed Co. does. This is a rare opportunity to tour a seed farm in the peak of harvest season to learn how seeds are produced. In this 2.5 hour tour, participants will have the chance to see a wide variety of plants going to seed, learn about seed cleaning tools, and try out different seed processing techniques.

About WINNOW Seed Co.
Julie Fletcher is the owner and operator of Winnow Seed Co. – a small scale organic farm that grows high quality, open-pollinated, and regionally adapted seeds. Seed is harvested from a wide variety of vegetables, herbs and flowers on the farm, while the land is stewarded in a way that promotes biodiversity, improves soil health and is ecologically sound. Julie loves being a part of the plant’s full life cycle and seeing the many unique ways each plant goes to seed. She hopes to create a strong connection between growers and the seed they plant that honours the beauty, history and intrinsic value each seed holds.
Julie had her seedy start with the lovely folks at Saanich Organics (Seeds of the Revolution) and was enchanted by seed keeping. When she moved back to the Kootenays she knew she wanted to keep working with seeds and has been growing seed crops at her home farm in Krestova since 2021. This is her tenth year farming and she looks forward to continuing learning from the plants and each season.
