About Zaklan Heritage Farm
We are a young couple running a small mixed vegetable farm in the heart of Surrey (30 min drive from Vancouver). In addition to our 1.5 acres in veggie production, we have a flock of laying hens that we rotate around the pasture. Our operation is run with a small walk- behind BCS tractor and hand tools (think Jean-Martin Fortier methods). During the growing season we attend 2-3 markets a week from June-October, all within 20 min of the farm. We also run a growing CSA program, which we hope to have reach 50 members in 2015. We are looking for someone with an interest in learning about small scale agriculture, has a good work ethic and enjoys getting dirty and working hard. We are open to small independent projects, let us know what you’re interested in learning.
Job Description:
We are looking to fill a full time (35-40 hours a week) position. You will work alongside us during the season with tasks such as weeding, bed prep, transplanting, seeding, harvesting, CSA packing, market preparations and other daily jobs around the farm. From June-October weekly tasks are dictated by our markets and CSA schedule. We often have volunteers and community members help-out during the season, an ability to take a leadership role and provide direction for volunteers is an asset.
Desired Attributes:
We are looking for an employee who has some previous experience or knowledge of
sustainable farming. Has a good work ethic and isn’t afraid of hard physical work for weeks on end. Candidates need to be flexible and willing to adapt to changing schedules and plans as things shift at the farm. We are looking for someone who is able to work with little direction and can be self motivated when it comes to completing tasks.
