FARM JOB: Williams Lake, BC – Puddle Produce Farm, Field Assistant

Puddle Produce Farm in Williams Lake, BC is seeking a Field Assistant!

ABOUT Puddle Produce Farm

Puddle Produce Farm is a small 1.5 acre certified organic vegetable farm established on a 30 acre property on the Fraser river, in the historic region of Soda Creek (approximately 48kms north of Williams Lake, BC). We have been certified organic since 2020 and grow around 50 varieties of vegetables and microgreens for 1 farmers market, an online store and CSA membership, and wholesale. In addition to the market garden, we also have a small orchard of 55 apple trees that we sell fresh, and pressed into unpasteurized juice. We are low-till so we use 2 walk-behind tractors and a compact tractor for periodic field work/moving stuff around. The majority of our daily work is hand tools and a couple of dumpy farm trucks.

Puddle Produce Farm’s Mission:

To provide a healthy, local, organic, & diverse alternative to our only other sources of food. We want to grow as much of this food for as many people as possible in our community, at fair prices that can support educational and satisfying farm jobs for seasonal employees. We want to remove barriers to buying local by providing as much convenience as possible and creating value in the form of the highest quality produce available. We want to do all of this while living a healthy, humble, and honest life, and giving back to those around us as well as the ecosystem that supports this work.

DESIRED QUALITIES

The farm is female-owned and operated and is a small crew: usually just 3-4 people. We know this work takes a lot so we give as much as we can to make staff feel welcomed and valued. Our motto is basically work hard but make time to have fun and enjoy this amazing lifestyle (think pizza nights and hammocks). If you enjoy a good day’s work, are keen about market gardening, and have a mature attitude, we’d probably get along!

What We’re Looking For:

  • Must have at least 6 months of successful previous experience in an outdoor, physically-demanding role
  • Are comfortable bending down and kneeling for extended periods of time, able to lift up to 50lbs, and competent using hand tools
  • Detail oriented, efficient, and production focused
  • Fast learner and ability to adapt to new positions and working with new people
  • Punctuality and strong time management skills
  • Ability to take direction, accept constructive feedback and to ask for help when needed
  • Mature and positive attitude
  • Good people and customer service skills
