Northstar Organics in Victoria, BC is seeking a Field and Greenhouse Worker and Produce Packing Specialist!

ABOUT Northstar Organics

We are a 10-acre certified organic farm growing vegetables and berries in fields and greenhouses. The farm is located in Central Saanich at 2200 Bear Hill Rd. All our food is sold in the Victoria area, at farmers’ markets, and to local restaurants.

Northstar Organics is certified by NOOA. Our goal is to grow healthy food in a sustainable way, all for consumption in Victoria and area community.

DESIRED QUALITIES

Interested in farming
Able to carry out the physical work on the farm, including lifting up to 40 pound boxes
Enjoy fast paced work places with ambitious daily goals.
Able to commute to the farm at 2200 Bear Hill Road in Central Saanich
Legally entitled to work in Canada

POSITION TASKS

Field and Greenhouse Worker: This work involves mostly field work such as:

preparing and seeding beds
cultivation, and planting
greenhouse vegetable work including planting, pruning, and trellising crops.

Produce packing specialist: The farm grows over 60 different crops, so there is a wide variety of packing skills to master. Work involves preparing produce for wholesale customers and farmers’ markets. This is a fast paced job with tasks including:

washing salad and drying using a commercial spinner
cleaning produce in the wash area
organizing cold storages
packing daily orders to be ready for delivery

POSITION DETAILS

Term: Both positions are full time, permanent positions

Field and Greenhouse Worker, to start February 2
Produce packing specialist, to start May 4

Hours per week: 37.5

Wage: Compensation is $20/hour to start, plus 4% vacation pay. Unsold produce is available to employees to take home for personal use.
