Coop les Jardins de la Résistance in Ormstown, Quebec is seeking a Field and Greenhouse worker!
ABOUT Coop les Jardins de la Résistance
Coop les Jardins de la Résistance is a small-medium organic farm located in the town of Ormstown in the Haut Saint Laurent. We cultivate around 8 acres and have 2 greenhouses which are largely used for tomatoes, cucumbers and winter greens. This will be our 17th year of production.
Our main sales channel is through community supported agriculture or ”vegetable baskets” as they are better known. From June until mid November we provide 400 weekly organic vegetables baskets over 5 different drop off points in and around Montreal. We also have a winter CSA program and provide 200 baskets on a bi-weekly basis from November until the end of April. We sell our surplus to restaurants and grocery stores and donate any unsellable produce to our local food security organizations.
We are a small team consisting of between 9 to 11 people, with people living both on and off the farm. Being a coop, we value communication and transparency between employees and coop members. We also like to have fun! There are many other local organic farms and we all like to get together once a month on different farms and share food and stories. We like to make time to hang out outside of work hours once a week, even if its just to have an ice cream or a beer together.
The farm is semi-mechanized. We have a transplanter, a machine for washing bunches of vegetables, a blade to lift rows of carrots and other fun machines but we still do plenty of tasks by hand, namely weeding and harvesting.
Our core mission is to grow delicious, flavorful fruits and vegetables for our community on 8 acres of certified organic land, but even more important is the spirit in which we do so. We value:
An open and supportive work environment:
Members support one another and are treated fairly. Open-mindedness guides decision-making.
Ecological / organic practices:
We strive to work using methods that respect nature.
Solidarity:
Members leave no one behind. The cooperative is a place where mutual aid, camaraderie, enjoyment of work, communication, appreciation, and shared responsibility prevail.
