ABOUT North Peace Applied Research Association
The North Peace Applied Research Association (NPARA) is a non-profit agricultural organization located in Manning, in the Peace Region of Northern Alberta. As a producer driven organization, NPARA conducts applied agricultural research and extension programs in the County of Northern Lights and MD of the Peace focused on cereals, oilseeds, pulses, forages and cover crops. We conduct small-plot research trials in our research farm which is located in North Star around Manning using farm equipment such as tractors, seeder, sprayer and combine. The primary product of the farm is research and extension. We generate agronomic data, host field days and workshops and share results with local farmers rather than selling crops.
NPARA is a a producer-driven, non-profit research organization committed to supporting practical and unbiased applied research and extension. We focus on soil health, regenerative agriculture practices in short-growing season in the Peace Region.

DESIRED QUALITIES
- Degree, Diploma or student in agriculture, plant science, soil science, agronomy or related field, or farm experience
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Relevant experience in agricultural research would be an asset
- Experience operating farm equipment or willingness to learn
- Attention to detail and ability to access and gather technical agricultural information and data
- Possess communication skills to share knowledge in a professional and effective manner
- Positive attitude and willingness to work with others
- Driven to learn more about field research with various stakeholders (producers, agribusiness, government, and academia)
- Highly motivated and individually driven
- Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada
- Drivers license valid in Alberta
The intern will work alongside the Research Technician and Operations Assistant while preforming research duties, they will also demonstrate tasks where the student is able to work along. Main supervision will be under both the research technician and the operations assistant.
POSITION TASKS
NPARA is offering an extraordinary opportunity to learn about soil health in 2026. We are seeking post-secondary students to participate in our 2026 agricultural research program.
The interns will assist in:
- seeding
- field maintenance
- data collection
- sampling
- harvest and
- reporting on all soil health projects
- data preparation
- extension events
- community outreach
- and other duties as assigned
The position involves working on a research farm in North Star and travel throughout the Peace Region.

POSITION DETAILS
Term: 16 weeks or more and the start date is May 4th, 2026. Start and end dates are flexible.
Hours per week: 37.5 hours. Flexibility for time off
Wage: Salary is $18-21/hour, based on experience. Overtime hours can be banked and used as time in lieu.
There is a bunk house which can be lived in, the intern will be responsible for their own meals.
