Here at Young Agrarians, we eat, breathe, and live land access solutions to help get new farmers on the land. With the cost of land putting ownership out of reach for many new and young farmers, new entrants are increasingly turning to alternative land access models, such as leasing. Since 2016, the Young Agrarians Land Matching Program Pilot in Metro Vancouver has been pairing farmers seeking land for lease with farmland owners who want to make their land available for farming. We’re thrilled that the Real Estate Foundation of B.C. (REFBC) has chosen our Land Matching Program Pilot as a finalist in their 2018 Land Awards!
The Land Awards were established by REFBC to celebrate big ideas and bold leadership in land use and real estate. Every time we go, we’re blown away by the innovation and amazing projects that this event recognizes, and we’re so honoured to be included in their midst.
We’d also like to congratulate this year’s Land Champion, Lana Lowe. Lana has done incredible work in her community as Director of Lands at Fort Nelson First Nation, developing a land and water management framework based in both Dene knowledge and values and scientific approaches to ecosystem management. Go Lana – you’re a powerful force for good in the world!
We can’t wait to join everyone at the Land Awards event to celebrate Lana’s work, as well as the contributions of our fellow finalists. You can learn more about the other Land Awards finalists, as well as the Real Estate Foundation of B.C., who have been an amazing support to Young Agrarians programs over the years.
