Spend your summer helping out under the endless skies of Central Alberta in fields of flowers! Lady’s Hat Farm, a cut flower farm near Castor, Alberta, is looking for an enthusiastic apprentice to work and care for their the 1-acre flower farm and farm animals.
About the Farm & Apprenticeship
Lady’s Hat Farm produces seasonal and ecological cut flowers and is also home to a floral studio where Nikki designs arrangements for weddings, weekly bouquet subscriptions, packs wholesale orders for florist customers, and dries thousands of stems for wreaths in the fall and winter. Fresh flowers are sold for bouquet subscriptions and weddings from late-May to mid-September. Farm-dried floral creations (such as wreaths) are offered in the fall and winter, and ready-to-grow seedlings are offered in the spring to help launch others’ flower dreams.
At Lady’s Hat Farm, the apprentice will learn the process of starting seeds and caring for seedlings in a greenhouse setting, transplanting, harvesting and arranging flowers, as well as some livestock husbandry.
As part of the apprenticeship, you will meet with other apprentices across Alberta who are part of the Young Agrarians Apprenticeship program. Field days, learning opportunities and potlucks will be planned with this group at each host’s farm.
