Introduction Since its re-invention in 1999, the UBC Farm has evolved from a small-scale market garden, run solely by dedicated students and volunteers, to a fully operational, organically managed, mixed vegetable production farm which supplies three weekly markets, an 80-person Community Supported Agriculture Program, and numerous direct sales to restaurants, including a total of $20,000 in sales to UBC Food Services on UBC Campus in 2013. WHAT IS THE PRACTICUM? The UBC Farm Practicum in Sustainable Agriculture is a hands-on educational program, designed to provide a full growing season of experience to students with a strong interest in sustainable agriculture and food systems. Ideal candidates for the program are aspiring farmers, urban gardeners, environmental educators, and people who wish to be part of the future of farming and food systems. The practicum runs part-time from March to November. Our program graduates share a vision of livelihoods and lifestyles grounded in sustainable and community-based food systems. Dennis J. Dennis is a Masters Candidate at UBC Land & Food Systems. We are so excited about the farmland demand survey that Dennis is working on!
