Peace Country Winter Mixer 2020 Recap

A great group of farmers and farmer friends came together during the third Young Agrarians Peace Country Mixer! Camp Tamarack was filled with laughter, knowledge, expertise, interesting and curious talk during the weekend of February 22nd and 23rd, 2020. Farmers traveled from far and wide to be part of the networking and education. The farmer speed dating was a great way for everyone to meet each other! EVENT RECAP: CENTRAL ALBERTA WINTER MIXER 2020

The Central Alberta Winter Mixer was a fantastic weekend full of inspiring and passionate people! Despite the frigid temperatures, more than 80 people participated over the two days. Some highlights of the Mixer included fun networking activities (the Chicken Mingle was a hit!), an impressive potluck and jam session on Saturday evening, farmer slide shows that featured ten different farms, and farmer yoga on Sunday morning with retired-farmer-turned-yoga-teacher Kathleen Charpentier. Over the two days we also had twelve speakers and workshop hosts share their skills and knowledge. What an inspiring first ever 2-day Young Agrarians William’s Lake Winter Mixer! Thanks to everyone who came, to our speakers and to our sponsors. The Williams Lake Winter Mixer brought together  91 people from across our region February 9-10th to learn, share stories and knowledge, and to make new connections.  It was a fantastic, diverse group with lots of familiar faces and a whole bunch of new ones, from people just starting out to farmers and ranchers who’ve been working the fields for many years. MEET YOUR CENTRAL B.C. COORDINATOR: Robin Hunt is a market gardener from the Cariboo Region of B.C. She is excited to join the Young Agrarians team and work with farmers around the region. She currently farms with her husband Johan Bos at Big Rock Ranch in Buffalo Creek, B.C. Here they raise free range heritage chickens rotationally on pasture, run a mixed fruit/vegetable market garden and tiny home B&B, with a large focus on animal welfare and soil health. They feel strongly about building community, their local economy and supporting it by investing locally.
