Rainbow End Farm is an intensive permaculture farmstead providing a wide variety of fruits and vegetables to the home, CSA members, and the local food bank. The farm doubled in size in response to empty food shelves in March 2020 and a renewed focus on local food security. You’re invited to a Farm Tour & Potluck at A Rocha Farm in Surrey, BC! A Rocha is a christian non-profit focused on caring for the environment through education, conservation science and sustainable agriculture. Their farm is about 2.5 acres with about half of their production in a no-till system (they just switched over this year!). On September 11, 2021, we gathered with more than 30 people for a socially-distanced outdoor Land Social at Jewel Creek Farm just outside of Greenwood, B.C., unceded and traditional territory of the Syilx Nation. Land Socials connect farmers and farmland holders, and set them up to receive ongoing support through the program, as well as anyone who loves food, farming, and getting out onto the land. Wildwood Farm located just outside of Pouce Coupe has been Tim and Linda’s home for nearly 50 years! Draft horses are used in farm work where ever possible from garden and field tillage to milling their own grain. Beef cattle, milk cows, hogs, and laying hens are all raised here and make this farm so special. They are planning the next steps for the farm with developing a non-family farm transition and succession plan. On Wednesday August 25, the Kersley Farmers Institute welcomed 44 people to enjoy a day full of farm tours at three host farms, Dunlevy Ranch, Rocky Point Ranch, and North Star Farm House. Over the course of the day, we saw diverse farming ventures and agribusinesses, networked, and shared ideas about farming in the North Cariboo.
