ABOUT THE LAND
We are seeking a qualified and motivated farmer to take over a fully operational Market Garden in Coldstream, BC. The farm is set up and ready to begin operations in Spring 2023. The cultivated area consists of 24 field blocks of 42.5’ x 50’ each, totaling approximately 1.25 acres, surrounded by tractor-accessible wood chip pathways, and each block is equipped with computer-controlled irrigation. The soil is a topsoil/clay mix that has been amended with compost and organic chicken manure. Additionally, there are two 15’ x 50’ independently irrigated Gothic arch hoop houses, ideal for growing heat-loving vegetables.
ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
The farm is equipped with a variety of tools and equipment, including a John Deere 2032R tractor with 5’ tiller and front loader bucket, a BCS with attachments, a Jang triple seeder, greens harvesters, a Johnny’s tilther, landscape fabric, harvesting and storage bins, drip line irrigation, insect netting, trays for drying garlic or onions, and racks and trays for starting transplants. A 10×10 walk-in cooler is located in a farm building that has a large veggie washing area, as well as a 3,000 square foot store front on busy Aberdeen Road.
This farm is known as Railside Market Garden and it was built and actively farmed as a “no spray” farm for 4 seasons from 2018 to 2021, by the family that is currently living on the property. The business was built around selling from; the storefront (including a weekly CSA), the Kelowna Farmers Market on Saturdays; and to a local grocery store. Due to a serious of unfortunate events in 2021 the family can no longer farm the property and is searching for a new farmer(s) who has the ambition and a bit of experience but needs the land and opportunity to enable them to get going.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE
The ideal candidate is a hardworking farmer with enough experience to know the value of this opportunity, and has a few partners or employees that they are willing to help realize its potential.
The lease amount and timeline is open for negotiation. Bring your business plan and make us an offer. We really just want to see the investment we have made in the property put to good use. We’re not the only ones, we have about 100 customers that would love to see veggies in the store again.
