ABOUT THE LAND

The Damali Lavender Farm was established in 2005. Located in Cobble Hill, BC, in the heart of the Cowichan Valley, the farm currently has approximately 2.5 acres of established lavender patches.

Damali grows over 25 varieties of lavender, which are selected for their suitability to the climate and terrain, as well as their unique qualities. All of the current lavender plants are under production and harvestable – about 20-30% will need to be replanted in the next year. The remaining sections will need to be replaced in the next three to five years.

The farm is fully set up for lavender production and processing, complete with an oil distillery and stripper machine on site along with two drying sheds. Using the steam distillation system, lavender essential oil and lavender hydrosol can be extracted. A wide variety of products have been made from these base ingredients as well as dried lavender flower buds, and local artisans have created beautiful products that contain Damali’s Lavender. There are many more ways lavender could be marketed, including culinary recipes, lavender plants, bulk sales and u-pick!

The property is also home to a vineyard, gift shop, winery, labyrinth, orchards and other natural delights, making this land a popular destination for locals and visitors throughout the season.

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

The current landholders purchased the property for the vineyard and winery, and plan to expand the production of grapes. They are seeking a serious, independent farming partner for the lavender business – someone who is committed to growing and harvesting of the lavender as well as building a viable lavender farm business. They are open to exploring different ways to make this work – lease, business partnership, management contract, etc.

The landholders will consider funding capital improvements to make the farming successful. There is no current plan to expand the lavender but that could change with the right farming partner. Use of some farm equipment would be possible if it did not interfere with the needs of the vineyard management.

For the right person, onsite housing can be negotiated.

Are you interested, but don’t have extensive experience in lavender farming? Not to worry – the landholders can connect you to knowledgeable mentors in the industry. If you love lavender and are eager to build a successful business, reach out to start a conversation!
