GOT LAND? WANT LAND? Are you a landholder looking for farmers? Are you a farmer looking for land? We want you!
Join us for a day of farm-focused programming, hosted by Young Agrarians and Langley Sustainable Agriculture Foundation! We’ll be networking and talking about land access and sustainable agricultural water management.
Morning – Land Linking Workshop with the B.C. Land Matching Program and Young Agrarians: Land Linking Workshops bring together land seekers and landholders to network, explore possible land matches and learn how to build and maintain mutually beneficial land agreements. This workshop includes a panel discussion with matched farmers and farmland holders, plus a land access expert. You will learn the benefits of land sharing, how to assess land for farming, decision-making strategies for farm operations on leased land and tips for managing communication and relationships.
*Before the workshop, you’ll get access to an online webinar that covers land access basics. Check out the video beforehand and bring your follow-up questions to the panel discussion!
Networking and Lunch: There will be ample time to connect with other attendees and speakers from both the morning and afternoon sessions. You’ll get to meet land seekers, landholders and your regional land matcher, Ve-Jane Duong, as well as jam with other farmers about water projects. While you network, you’ll enjoy a light lunch and refreshments (vegan and gluten free options will be available).
Afternoon – Water Management in Sustainable Agriculture with Troy Vassos: Keynote speaker Troy Vassos will discuss agricultural water management (including quality, treatment and storage) and the changing regulatory climate around agricultural water licensing. Two recipients of grants from Langley Sustainable Agriculture Foundation will share about their sustainable grant-funded projects. You will come away from this session with a better understanding of water management in sustainable agriculture, and perhaps some inspiration for your own projects!
Date: Saturday, November 2, 2024 • 9am – 4pm PDT
Location: Coast Salish, Semiahmoo, Katzie, Tsawwassen, Sto:lo & Kwantlen Territories. George Preston Recreation Centre – 20699 42 Ave, Langley BC
REGISTER: Please RSVP for your free ticket on Eventbrite.
Please feel free to join us for the whole day, or just the morning or afternoon. All are welcome to this event! Are you are a landholder with a vision for your land or have you just started thinking about leasing? A farmer whose plan is to grow fruit, veggies, raise livestock or have some other farming project in mind? Or maybe you’re a land steward who has an interest in sustainable agriculture and water management? We hope you will join us for a day of learning, inspiration and connecting with the farmers and landholders in your region.
