ABOUT THE LAND
OUR ECOVILLAGE is a 25-acre Regenerative Living Demonstration, Research Center, and Bioregional School hosting a land-based permaculture learning community. Established in 1999, OUR vision is sustainable well-being for the land, ourselves, and our worldwide village.
As a non-profit cooperative, there are plenty of different activities and stakeholders functioning within this ‘co-working’ space. With livestock/poultry, food forests, greenhouses, raised beds, row crops, berries, herbs, and a small permaculture nursery.
We envision shared access to the land for a variety of different farmers, including incubator farms, and working with universities with research if farmers are interested (e.g. bio-char, soil science). The farmer(s) could live on-site and/or look at long-term options for land-sharing in the cooperative. We collectively have a wealth of resources to share!
We can offer 1-9 acres of cultivable land, some fencing in place for rotational grazing, and existing infrastructure (barns, sheds, greenhouses), depending on what the farmer(s) is hoping to do.
There are mixed soil types on this land, and plenty of water from wells, rainwater harvesting, and wastewater reclamation system.
OUR farm has been growing an abundance of vegetable and fruit crops, following organic and Permaculture practices. We have a farm stand and ‘slow-food drive-thru’ for CSA pick-ups. The Ecovillage generates a lot of traffic with guests, presenting an excellent built-in marketing opportunity for farm products.
ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
This is a unique opportunity for an individual, couple, or even family. We might imagine two different roles: 1) a market gardener, and 2) someone who is wishing to be part of a farm incubator program.
Everything at OUR ECOVILLAGE happens through proposals, and thus we’re very open to hearing new farmer(s) vision, plans, and project ideas. We would still like to have some areas for food education programming, our kitchen, and perhaps still run some of the livestock, depending on what type of proposals come in. We have other income sources on site, which could have mutual benefits for the new farmer(s).
We welcome farmers to live on the land. We have room for tiny homes, or we have homes available onsite, which are made of earthen/cob and straw-bale construction.
