ABOUT THE LAND
This 131.5 acre parcel is just a 10 minute drive north of the City of Quesnel, in the Ten Mile Lake area. Approximately 50+/- acres are cleared and have been used for both pasture and forage with the potential to clear further acres of immature pine and poplar stands. The farm was most recently leased for forage and garlic production. In 2020, approximately 60+ round bales were taken off and an acre of garlic planted.
The area the land is in exists in a snow belt which receives and captures far greater snow accumulation than properties to the south. This lends well to crops such as berries, fruit trees, and perennial crops such as asparagus and garlic. Apiary and honey production would also be viable, as well as small intensive livestock such as layers, goats, sheep, rabbits.
Soil is mixed with combination of sandy loam, clay, peat and gravel. Plenty of water available is available from an underground spring fed well, as well as two irrigation ponds with potential for a third.
ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
Vision for property is to have a bio-diverse sustainable farm that uses existing, as well as created, permaculture features and design in the production of food for now and the future. The owner is seeking like minded individual/s, couple/s or partners to continue to develop the farm into the little jewel it has the potential to become. There is a house on site that will be available, and a trailer as well that is being rented out.
With over 20 years experience in the Ag industry, the owner is willing to mentor and work with an individual or collective to create a bio-diverse, sustainable farm operation. While farming is a business, it is first and foremost a lifestyle choice and requires a hands-on approach.
What you bring to the table:
- Agriculture, Forestry, Environment Sciences background (as examples)
- Willingness and ability to invest time and resources for long term (5-10 years)
- Practical skill sets; mechanical, administrative, communication, time management, interpersonal, adaptive to changing situations (critical thinking, problem solving, decision making)
Farming is like raising a child. It requires sacrifice, patience, optimism and love to plant the seed, cultivate the growth and reap rewards of the harvest.
