ABOUT THE LAND
This 9.5-acre farm is located in Cobble Hill in the Cowichan Valley of Vancouver Island. The landholders run a commercial salad green and basil business, growing intensively in 100-sqft raised beds that they’ve constructed from poured concrete. It is so amazing how much can be produced on a small piece of land!
0.5 to 1 acre of land is available for market gardening, a few additional acres for pastured poultry, and a lot of space for beekeeping. Some of the concrete beds could be made available to the new farmer. The rest of the land is in pasture, part of which could be converted into a new garden, or used for rotational grazing of chickens and turkeys.
The garden as well as adjacent land is set up for irrigation with a good supply of well water.
The farmer will have access to a walk-in cooler, wash station, and packing station. There are also bathroom facilities and coffee/lunch room for the farmers.
ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
Landholders are farmers themselves and are excited to share the land and knowledge with the new farmer(s), foster a new farm business, and see the land used in positive ways.
“We have more land, we have water and sun, and it would be wonderful to see more food being produced.”
Full-time farmers, part-time farmers, and people who want to start small and farm on the side are all welcome here!
The farm is conveniently located off of the Island Highway, a few minutes to the town of Cobble Hill and only 15 minutes to Duncan. There are plenty of marketing opportunities in the Cowichan Valley, through farmers markets, CSAs, Cow-op, and other channels. The Landholders will be happy to share their connections in the community.
