ABOUT THE LAND
This 3 acre property is tucked away near Lake Cowichan, in the community of Mesachie Lake. About one acre of the land is taken up by a pond, about one acre for the house, outbuildings and yard, and at least one acre of the remaining forested space is available for an agricultural vision.
The available space is accessed by a side road, the frontage of which could be cleared somewhat to create a small area for crops to be planted. The remaining area is relatively open mixed conifers and deciduous trees. The landholder is open to clearing some of the smaller trees and any deadwood, and would like agriculture to enhance the forest, rather than detract from it. Wild crafting, mushroom production and other forest based activities would do well here.
Municipal water can be made available at the site, as well as hydro. The area is frequented by wildlife, including elk and bears, so good fencing is needed if crops or livestock are to be produced.
ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
The landholder would like to support in creating a successful farming operation on the land, and has access to machinery for clearing, as well as construction materials, panel fencing, etc. A seacan on the site could be made available to the farmer if wanted.
There is capacity for the farmer to bring a trailer, RV or tiny home to the land, and all hook ups area available. The farmer’s home site would have a separate access from the landholders’ home.
Achieving farm status is not a requirement of leasing this land, but a spirit of mindful land stewardship and community building are important qualities in the leasing farmer.
