ABOUT THE LAND

This opportunity is an 8.5 acre hay field, cleared and ready for food production, with a barn for storage and living on Pender Island! 

Pender Island is a 40 minute ride on BC ferries from Swartz Bay on the Saanich Peninsula. The farm is 10 minutes from the ferry terminal.

A recently completed two-story barn has the capacity to store farm equipment on the lower floor and provide accommodation of the upper floor, complete with a kitchen, bathroom and two bedrooms. Each floor is about 1,200 sqft.

There is a large irrigation pond at one end of the field, in addition to well water for use in the barn. There is full perimeter fencing around the field and barn, and direct road access to both off Highgrove Road.

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

This is an opportunity for an independent lease, or profit/crop-share agreement for the production of organic vegetables. Weather on Pender is mild and generally sunny, and is well suited for growing a wide variety of crops. The greatest challenge is the dry summer, when water is an issue. Traditionally, these islands have seen a lot of apple and pear growing.

The Gulf Islands attract new wave restaurants and the owners would love to grow organic, healthy vegetables (perhaps trying out some new, unique varieties) for these eateries as well as for consumers in the Greater Victoria Area and Saanich Peninsula.
