We always have new land opportunities coming into our inventory, some of which aren’t on our blog yet! Get in touch with a Land Matcher at bclmp@youngagrarians.org to learn about the latest opportunities and to access free B.C. Land Matching Program services in your region.

ABOUT THE LAND

This beautiful property offers 320 acres of bountiful mixed grazing on an operating farm in Burns Lake, BC! The landholders, who are experienced livestock farmers, would love to see the whole property in operation. The farm has previously run as many as 300 head of sheep, with some cattle, and has all the equipment and infrastructure necessary to continue running the same numbers.

The land features loam soils, currently covered in mixed grasses. There are multiple water systems located nearby, including lakes with excellent fishing and recreation. If you are a nature-loving outdoor enthusiast, this is the place for you!

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

This opportunity is open to many types of production, including various crops, though the land, infrastructure and equipment available are best suited to livestock. In addition to the 320 acres, there is also a 1150-acre grazing lease currently tied to the operation, which the incoming farmer could continue to use, if desired.

The farmer could also make use of resources and infrastructure on the property, including a 7 stall hip roof barn, a 300 x 30 foot pole barn, and a working shed with scale, head gate, loading chute, alley and pens. This opportunity also comes with water licenses already in place.

The landholders have experience with livestock farming and are willing to mentor the incoming farmer. Given that they have an established customer base, they would love for the incoming farmer to take over their operation.

For the right individual, the landholders are very interested in a generous lease-to-own agreement!

ABOUT THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

The ideal candidate for this opportunity is an experienced farmer interested in commercial agricultural production, beyond homesteading. The land, having been previously used for livestock, is best suited for a farmer interested in a livestock and hay operation.

The landholders want to continue to live on the property and “age in place” so maintaining good, open communication with the landholders is key. This is an excellent, flexible opportunity for a farmer seeking a large parcel for livestock and hay!
