LAND OPPORTUNITY: 2.5-acre meadow available for small-scale livestock – Salmon Arm, BC

We always have new land opportunities coming into our inventory, some of which aren’t on our blog yet! Get in touch with a Land Matcher at bclmp@youngagrarians.org to learn about the latest opportunities and to access free B.C. Land Matching Program services in your region.

ABOUT THE LAND

Nestled in the forest in beautiful Salmon Arm, this 2.5-acre meadow at Meadow Brae farm is now available for a small livestock operation! The 13-acre property is a functioning farm, with a garden centre running in the Spring and haskaps growing throughout the summer.

The available 2.5-acre space is surrounded by forest and bordered on one side by Canoe Creek. The area has previously been used for gardening and grazing a couple of horses, and is now covered with native grasses and soft vegetation, which are currently managed by mowing. The meadow space is flat, and the area has its own private road access. Though the area is not fenced, previous farmers were able to successfully install and operate with temporary fencing.

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

Founded in 2020, Meadow Brae is a family endeavor focused on providing high quality products grown using sustainable practices. The landholders are looking to share some extra space and give a farmer the chance to start their own small-scale farm operation and enjoy the peace of the meadow.

Water license rights to Canoe Creek (which borders the growing space) are for livestock only, so the farmer could manage chickens, a small amount of sheep or goats, or bees.

Also available with this opportunity is space for housing! There is an RV pad space and access to water and electricity for a trailer or other mobile living arrangement. The previous farmers installed a composting toilet on this site, and the incoming farmer(s) would be welcome to do the same.

ABOUT THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

The ideal candidate for this opportunity would have access to all the necessary tools, equipment, and infrastructure to start or move their small-scale livestock operation.

Meadow Brae is a functioning farm and the landholders live on the property, so good communication, collaboration, and willingness to work and live near others will be key for this opportunity. The landholders manage the property as organically as possible and would request the incoming farmer do the same.

The landholders are excited to meet with candidates and are open to discussing an arrangement that works well for all parties. If you’re looking for a private and serene space for your small-scale livestock operation, don’t hesitate to reach out!
