ABOUT THE LAND:
Lone Pine Farm is 34 acres located on Westsyde Rd in Kamloops, adjacent to the Dunes Golf Course. The 20 acres on the west side of the road are beautiful, rolling hills, a grassland/sage ecosystem (currently in the process of being donated to BC Parks) and the 14 acres on the other side of the road, next to the North Thompson river, are arable, fertile, flat fields. This property has been in the family since the 1920’s and used for a variety of agricultural purposes including cattle, mixed orchard and extensive vegetable garden. The riverbank area is a corridor for wildlife. *Side note from Land Matcher, Tessa Wetherill: The place has a palpable peace to it. There is something about this land that feels incredibly blessed and special.
Currently there are two farmers leasing small pieces of the land, with most of the available acreage currently being hayed. One grower has a .5 acre market garden with a market stall to sell her product on the road and another grower is producing organic garlic. The rest of the fields are cut for hay. Currently city irrigation water is used for the property, though a well could be required in the future.
ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY:
The owners of the land want to see the land continue to be productive in an ecological and organic way. They do not want to see it sold to a developer and are looking for visionary partners to carry forward the legacy of good land stewardship. There is much potential for a respectful, responsible farmer with a long term vision and good business plan. There is a wide range of possible uses, including berries, orchard, vegetables, bees, vineyard or livestock. Opportunities to tie in with universities in some way to provide educational benefits would be looked upon favorably as well.
