Reporting to the Farm Manager, the Farm Program Coordinator is responsible for the development and delivery of core FortWhyte Farms programming to under-served youth, as well as other programs and activities based at FortWhyte Farms.
Principal Tasks:
Program Development and Delivery (65%)
- Develop and deliver programming for youth, based on food and agriculture activities of the farm, emphasising on hands-on, experiential learning linked to the Education for Sustainable Development Curriculum and related Mb Curriculum learning outcomes
- Develop and deliver program activities related to healthy living, nutrition, culinary and employment skills with Farm Leadership Training Programmer and Program Assistant
- Create and seek partnerships to develop outside learning, training and community service opportunities for youth and diverse program participants
- Organize, facilitate and/or delegate custom tours, workshops and events for large groups
- Recruit, interview, train and supervise youth participants in the Summer Employment Program
- Provide or arrange transportation for youth as needed
- Maintain and recruit partner agencies, schedule programs and maintain attendance records
- Evaluate and report all program outcomes
- Assist Farm Operations Coordinator to execute agricultural operational activities
- Train and support program volunteers with assistance from FortWhyte Alive’s Volunteer Manager
- Schedule, train, facilitate and support seasonal employees work and professional development
- Work with Farm Manager to ensure program/participation requirements of grants and supporting agencies are met
Operations (30%)
- With the Farm Operations Coordinator, ensure program participants and seasonal staff meet the operational needs of the farm
- Assist and lead any farm operations where needed
- Maintain transportation vehicle, maintain farm site and buildings when necessary
- Assist in development of overall FortWhyte Farms budget
Other Duties as Assigned (5%)
Required Qualifications:
- Demonstrated leadership experience and/or related post-secondary education in the development and delivery of programming related to personal growth and development of under-served, diverse youth
- Exceptional interpersonal skills and proven ability to work cooperatively with other team members to accomplish shared goals
- Proven ability to train, supervise and lead a staff team of youth and peers
- Proven initiative and problem-solving skills
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Physically fit, and capable of manual labour
- Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as part of a team
- Outstanding customer service skills
- Ability to develop and facilitate programs for large groups of all ages and abilities
- Availability to work in a flexible environment
- Valid Driver’s License (Class 4 preferred)
- Satisfactory background checks of the child abuse registry and criminal records
- An enthusiastic, genuine appreciation of FortWhyte Alive’s mission and mandate
Considered An Asset:
- Knowledge of positive youth development and progressive human resources management
- First Aid & CPR, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention, The Circle of Courage, Cultural Competency or other employment training/certification related to FortWhyte Farms
- Equivalent experience or training in one or all of the following areas: education, sustainable agriculture, culinary arts, animal husbandry, natural resources and/or construction trades
- Experience in project evaluation
- Access to private transportation
