Job summary
SeedChange is looking for an experienced grant writer to support fundraising for our domestic field program: The Bauta Family Initiative on Canadian Seed Security (the Initiative). The consultant will support the Initiative’s director, research manager, and regional coordinators to develop, write and review funding proposals in English and French.
Context
SeedChange’s mission is to build food sovereignty by working with partners to enhance biodiversity, promote ecological food systems, and counter inequity. SeedChange’s domestic field program, The Bauta Family Initiative on Canadian Seed Security, works with farmers across Canada to build resilient seed systems. We lead on-farm research and education programs on seed conservation and plant breeding to increase the quality, quantity, and diversity of regionally-adapted seed for low-input, ecological farming conditions.

Working conditions
This is a contract for a duration of November 1, 2020 to October 31, 2021 (subject to availability of the chosen candidate). Candidates must be based in, and have the legal right to work, in Canada. If working remotely, reliable internet service is required for collaborative remote work.
The maximum value of this contract is $10,000, billed at a rate negotiated with the chosen candidate. There is flexibility regarding working hours (in particular in light of COVID-19 constraints) and location (no preferred location).
Key responsibilities and experience we are seeking
The grant writer will report to the Initiative’s director and collaborate with the research manager and regional coordinators to write and review grant applications. The candidate must have excellent written and oral communication skills in English and French. The key responsibilities and qualifications for this contract are provided in the table below. We understand candidates may not have all the experience/ qualifications listed. SeedChange ways of working
The majority of SeedChange staff work from our head office in downtown Ottawa. All staff are currently working from home and the majority of the domestic program team works remotely. It is expected that the consultant will have access to a computer and remote working space. It is not required that the consultant work from the head office, but may have access to the office if requested.
The SeedChange office has a push-button-lock-access and a bell if assistance is required to enter the office. An accessible, non-gender washroom is available. SeedChange acknowledges that COVID-19 has disrupted work and personal lives, impacting people in different ways, and will work to support the grant writer to undertake their work in this context.
