Santropol Roulant is a community food hub located in Montreal that brings people together through various programs, activities and services. As part of its agriculture program, Santropol Roulant is offering two 6-month positions: an internship in peri-urban farming and an apprenticeship in urban agriculture.
Internship in Peri-Urban Farming
Spend 6 months on Santropol Roulant’s farm in Senneville, deepening your knowledge of organic farming and growing organic food for Santropol Roulant’s food security programs.
This position is specifically targeted towards applicants with 1 year of previous experienceon a rural or peri-urban farm.
Key responsibilities:
Under the guidance of the farm co-managers, the interns will contribute to the successful operation of the peri-urban farm according to the farm’s needs and in relation with the seasons. Their tasks may include any activities required to run the farm, such as:
- Field and greenhouse bed preparation
- Care for seedlings, transplantation and direct seeding
- Assuring proper crop maintenance (weeding, pest control, staking, pruning, thinning, etc.)
- Harvesting and preparing produce for sale and distribution
- Quantitative and qualitative record-keeping
- Supporting the farm co-managers at Santropol Roulant’s weekly market and organic basket distribution
- Coordinating and mentoring volunteers

Apprenticeship in Urban Agriculture
This 6-month position at Santropol Roulant will enable an pro-active urban farmer to take on the challenge of managing a 3,000 sqft of cultivation on the McGill campus and producing organic, local vegetables for Santropol Roulant’s Meals on Wheels program.
This apprenticeship is an ideal position for a candidate with previous experience in taking leadership in an agricultural setting who is ready for the responsibility of ensuring production targets, sharing their technical skills with others and building community and food security through urban agriculture.
