JOB: 2015 FIELD CROP MANAGER
Nanoose Edibles Farm, located between Nanaimo and Parksville on Vancouver Island, is seeking a FIELD CROP MANAGER for the 2015 season.
Certified organic since 1997, the farm markets into the Nanaimo Region, Tofino/Ucluelet, local restaurants and health food stores, a CSA box program and our on-farm store. The farm is open year-round and maintains greens production and other local products throughout the winter months.
The position requires a good knowledge of all vegetable crops, as well as an ability to plan and maintain good planting records. Crop Manager salary is $12 an hour for a person with good farm experience during a four month trial period, when an increased salary may be negotiated. On-farm accommodation can be negotiated for candidates who wish to remain and settle in the region.
Our goal is to provide nutrient dense certified organic produce to people in our region through a variety of marketing channels. We also promote cooperation with other farms in the region to replace imported organic produce.
We accept wwoofers and apprentices, but select for candidates who live in the region and plan to farm there in the future, either with us or on their own farm in the Central Island Region. Our ultimate goal is to have a number of farms pool resources and create a Certified Organic Marketing Co-op to supply organic produce to the entire region.
The farm is well resourced and owns a variety of old and new machinery, shops, greenhouses, berry fields, and tree fruit orchards. The farm does have a good reference library and a history of farm experience.
The owners, Barbara and Lorne are a wealth of agricultural information and the selected candidate would greatly benefit from their knowlegebase.
